Sixteen

I dressed in something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. A few hundred of my closest friends and family gathered together. Pictures were taken, candles were lit, and music was playing. I stood by my dad as the doors opened, and we slowly walked inside the room. I glanced at the crowd briefly as I marched down the aisle, but one set of eyes captured my gaze. I smiled at the man with whom I would spend the rest of my life, and the rest, as they say, is history.

It happened sixteen years ago, but it is a moment I’ll never forget no matter how long I live. As fantastic as that event was, it was only the start of our journey in the wild adventure of marriage. We’ve had ups and downs, but it’s been great sharing the joys and challenges of life with my best friend. That’s why we celebrate every year. Anniversaries are a great reminder of how blessed we are: blessed to be able to share our lives together and blessed to be following God’s direction for our lives.

Tonight’s anniversary celebration started with a special dinner at Maquire’s in Addison and ended with Pegasus Theatre’s production of Death Express, a living black and white murder mystery play at the Eismann Center. Living Black & White is a technique developed at Pegasus Theatre which through the use of trade-secret makeup, special lighting, meticulous costuming and set creation, combined with stylized acting creates the illusion that the audience is watching 1930’s-40’s black-and-white movie brought to life on stage. It’s really cool! For more info and some pictures of what it looks like, check out the Pegasus Theatre website.
