A Perfect Storm

perfect storm 2

There’s no other way to describe my day except “the perfect storm.” This phrase from the 1997 book that holds the same name refers to the simultaneous occurrence of weather events which, taken individually, would be far less powerful than the storm resulting of their chance combination.

Any one of the issues I faced today if taken individually would have been stressful and challenging, but the combination of all of them created the perfect storm. And like the characters in the story, I battled the storm for hours thinking I could ride it out until things died down. I was wrong. More issues kept cropping up at every turn with no easy answers, no quick solutions…only wind and waves.

Eventually, I reluctantly concluded that the intensifying storm was more powerful than my tiny boat could handle. It was breaking up, threatening to fall apart from the crashing waves. And then…it was time for drama rehearsals, a brief respite from the storm.

Actually, it was probably more like the eye of the storm. I was able to get a few hours of peace tonight, but tomorrow morning the storm will come crashing in again at full force. I’ve made it this far so I’m going to keep fighting…maybe, just maybe I can stay afloat long enough to make it until the skies clear later this month. Wish me luck!
