How To Make Monday Better

Want to know how to make your Monday better?   Schedule a movie night!  Not only does it give you something to look forward to all day, but it also makes for a fun evening.

I met up with my sister at Studio Movie Grill tonight for dinner and a movie.  We watched “The Bank Job”,  starring Jason Statham.  The movie is based on the true story of the 1971 Baker Street bank robbery.  Here’s the synopsis from IMDB, “In September 1971, thieves tunneled into the vault of a bank in London’s Baker Street and looted safe deposit boxes of cash and jewelry worth over three million pounds. None of it was recovered. Nobody was ever arrested. The robbery made headlines for a few days and then disappeared - the result of a ‘D’ Notice, gagging the press. This film reveals what was hidden for the first time. The story involves murder, corruption and a sex scandal with links to the Royal Family - a story in which the thieves were the most innocent people involved.”

The movie was really interesting.  It had a good plot, interesting characters, and some surprising twists.  The real thieves walked away with ~3 million pounds (more than the Great Train Robbery), yet no arrests were ever made and no money was recovered — better yet, the “D” order prevented the story from being told for 30 years.  Very interesting, indeed.

If you are considering watching it, I will warn you, though, that the movie is rated “R”.  For this movie, that rating means you have to suffer through a few nude scenes (i.e. strip club, etc).  It’s annoying, but it’s over pretty quick…just be prepared before you go.  We were a little surprised by it.

Sofa Logic

I arrived at church today and promptly began to dress down for the comedy sketch.  To play the part of the comfortable Christian, I had to go way beyond the norm for me.  I donned pink sesame street pyjama bottoms, a flowery blue gown, and a sponge Bob flannel shirt.  To finish off the hideousness of the outfit, I borrowed a pair of pink and white “bunny” slippers from Amy.  I teased my hair and placed some random curlers in it — believe me, this is a look that I would NEVER do normally.  Ah, the sacrifices we make for comedy, eh?

The sketch is about the person who has become comfortable and “settled” for less in life.  This person is the one who doesn’t want to get off the couch to get involved in anything.

Unfortunately, we had a technical glitch with the video, so I didn’t get the complete sketch, but here’s a recap and video of the ending:

- I walk in slowly as the “comfortable Christian” carrying a bowl of popcorn, soda, chips, and coffee cups.

- I plop on the sofa, turn on the TV, and begin to munch on food.

- At this point, I take large handfuls of popcorn and spill most of it on myself as I’m eating and chewing gum (gum and popcorn are not a good mix, btw).  I’m a total slob.  I spill soda all over myself and use a spoon to eat everything off my lap.

- Three angels watch the situation and try to intervene.

- The angels use all sorts of tricks to get me off the couch — invite me off, pull me off, pry me off with a crowbar, tip the couch – but nothing works.

- I ignore their efforts and continue to watch tv and munch on food (spilling it all over myself as I go).

- Finally, the angels try to lure me off with pizza.  That almost works, but then I take the easy route and start eating popcorn again.

- The angels’ last resort is to pull out jumper cables and “shock” me off the couch.

Check it out…

We performed the sketch in both services, so I had to go through my “make under” a couple of times.  I can’t tell you how many people at church were cracking up just seeing my appearance, especially those who know me well.  They know how out of character that is.  It was really fun, though.  And, it was probably the most comfortable I’ve ever been at church — ugly, but comfortable.  Haha!

Rehearsing and Whirlyballing

We’re doing a comedy sketch in tomorrow’s church service.  It goes along with the sermon series that our Pastor has been teaching this month, “The Comfortable Christian”.  It’s about Christians who become so comfortable with their lives that they are no good to anyone else.  They don’t want to get involved, don’t want to help, don’t want to reach out to others.  They just want to sit back and be comfortable.

Tomorrow’s sketch is about a couch potato who won’t get off the couch for anything.  I’m playing the couch potato, so it should be pretty fun.  I’ll be vegging on the couch, eating sloppy and wearing crazy grungy clothes.  And the coup de grâce…I’m wearing curlers and teasing my hair.  I’m going to look like such a slob; it should be hilarious.  The part is very out of character for me, but I’m having a blast playing it.  I’ll try to get a video to share in tomorrow’s blog.

After rehearsal tonight, we met up with the young married group at our church for a night of Whirlyball.  If you’ve never played it, then you’re missing out.  It’s sort of like playing basketball (or maybe polo) while in a bumper car.  I love it!

We reserved the court for two hours, so we had plenty of time.  Initially, the girls played against the guys.  We didn’t do too bad at first.  However, they began to slaughter us fairly fast; they’re just so competitive!  At that point, we began switching up the teams.  My team lost most of the time, but we pulled out a couple of wins.  Yay for the “yellow” team. :)
We finished off the night with a late dinner at TGI Fridays.

Good times.

Say It Isn’t So!

The Internet is abuzz once again with rumors of Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson.  This time, everyone is talking about the couple being married.

Here’s the story.  Simpson’s mom made an off-handed comment to a paparazzo when they were leaving a Chilis restaurant in L.A. this week.  She was asked when Jessica and Tony were going to get married.

“They already are, what are you talking about?” replied Simpson’s mom.

He asks Jessica, “You guys already married?”

Jessica and her mom laughed, and then Jessica says, “I guess, if mom says so.”

From the sound of it, they were just joking with an annoying paparazzo, but she has been dating Tony since last year.  I hope it’s not serious.  If it is, you can say goodbye to the Cowboys’ season this year.

She single-handedly brought him down by attending one game last year.  Can you imagine what would happen if they were actually married?  Ugh!  I hear collective sighs from Cowboys’ fans echoing across the country.

Seriously, what is he thinking?  Yes, she’s hot, but she is also a spoiled, immature diva.

C’mon Tony…you can do so much better.

Dinner and Shopping

It’s the perfect combination and a great way to spend a Thursday evening.  I forced myself to quit working at 5 pm today so I could meet up with Tiffany for a “girls night out”.

First, we grabbed a quick dinner at Chipotle — their chicken bowl is great by the way.  After dinner, we trekked over to Stone Briar Mall (or “Stroller” Briar as Gary likes to call it) for some power shopping.  It’s great because we can now shop in the same stores and try on clothes together.

Tiffany and I both love the Macy’s “Inc.” brand, so that was our first stop.  Actually, we ended up finding so many cute things there that we never even made it into the rest of the mall.

By the end of the night, I picked up a few new outfits and spent way too much money, but it was a fun.

Oh yeah….and tomorrow’s Friday…have a great one!
