Sad State of Affairs
Life is short. Have an affair.
Those are the words painted on a truck that has been rolling through Dallas in recent weeks. An online infidelity dating site is embarking on a media tour that includes Dallas. The site is repulsive and sickening. There are over 4 million members, and a new one signs up every 15 minutes. The site even boasts that it can guarantee an affair in 3 months — or you get your money back.
Noel Biderman, a married man who claims to be faithful to his wife, owns the company and seems to have no shame. The city of Dallas didn’t want his company to put up billboards, so he brought the billboards to the city in the form of trucks with painted messages on them.
I hesitate to give the site any additional press (and eliminated their name from this post), but their services struck a chord with me so I had to write about it. The services they offer are not illegal, but they are immoral and highly objectionable. It’s an affront to anyone who believes in the sanctity and beauty of marriage. And despite popular opinion, it is possible to have a happy, healthy marriage. I see them every day. The problem is that happy marriages aren’t celebrated like unhappy ones are. The media and entertainment industry likes to promote all the woes of marriage and paint affairs as exciting and necessary, but they aren’t. They eventually reek pain and destruction in the lives of all who are involved.
While I can’t stop people from using the site, I can try to be a beacon for those who are hurting in their marriage. There is hope, but you won’t find it in the form of an affair. You can find it by following God’s example of a healthy marriage. He established the union between a man and a woman. If both spouses follow His guide, it works — and it works really well!
