Broadway Shows and Showers

Yesterday, we had dinner with my parents and then went to the Music Hall at Fair Park to watch The Wedding Singer.  It is a delightful show set in the 80s (I am SO glad that decade is over — leg warmers, shoulder pads, big hair, boy George…have I said enough?).  The stage play follows the basic story outline from the movie, but it did take some creative liberties.  Many scenes were consolidated and played out in a different order.  Some characters were also changed.  The ending is quite different too.  It takes place in Vegas instead of the plane.

There were a few surprises in store for people who are familiar with the movie.  The flash dance homage was hilarious, and the impersonators at the end were “over-the-top”, but cute.  I wouldn’t recommend it for young kids, though, because they did use some mature language.

All in all, we had a really nice evening.  Everyone enjoyed the show.  And, it was fun spending time with my Mom and Dad.  We don’t get to hang out with them too much, so it was cool.

Today, I had a “double header” at church because it was my week to sing on the worship team.  Now that we have two services, it’s exhausting — five hours from start to finish.

I was excited because I thought I had a free afternoon.  I wanted to hang out by the pool and finish the blocking for Pirates of Patmos.  However, during a break at church, Miquell asked me about Katrina’s shower.  Oh no!  I had totally forgotten it was today!

So, after lunch, we rushed to the store to grab a gift.  I got home, immediately changed clothes and headed to Amy’s house.  I hate baby showers with a passion, but I force myself to show up when they are being held for my friends.  I managed to suffer through it and had fun in spite of myself.

Afterwards, I was spent.  I came home and crashed.  Then, I finished the blocking.

Hmm…weekends aren’t supposed to be this tiring!
