Don’t know what to get your loved one for Valentine’s Day this year? Tired of the standard fare? Looking for something more creative than flowers and candy? Well, nothing says love like a big fat hug, and this year you can send a hug that lasts forever to your special Valentine.
The Hug-E-Gram consists of two soft plush cotton arms with cartoon hands that are held together by an elastic band. They are stuffed with a polyester fiber to create a soft and cuddly hug. You can even add your own voice message to personalize the Hug-E-Gram. It’s almost as awesome as a snuggie (and for those who are wondering…yes, that’s sarcasm)!
Check it out in the video below.
Okay, okay, I know…it may not be the best gift ever, but it’s definitely a unique gift your loved one will never, ever forget.
And a word to the wise, if you order it for your Valentine, you may want to have some candy on hand as a back-up gift, just in case.
Smooch all you want during your next ride on DART (Dallas Areas Rapid Transit), and while you’re at it, take a picture. In celebration of Valentine’s Day, DART is encouraging customers to snap photos of themselves kissing on a DART bus, lightrail, or Trinity Railway Express train.
Share the love. It’s all in good fun. DART will select the best photo entries and post them on its Facebook page for Valentine’s Day. To submit your photo, email it to ValentineConnection@DART.org along with your contact information and a brief paragraph about the kiss. All entries must be submitted by noon on Friday, Feb. 12.
So, if you’re bored this weekend and want to have some pre-Valentine’s Day fun, simply grab your camera and your spouse (or significant other), hop on a DART bus, and then pucker up. Even if you don’t submit a photo for the contest, it’s still a fun way to pass the time as you are waiting to arrive at your destination!
Millions of people across the world will celebrate Valentine’s day tomorrow. For many, it’s the perfect time to express their love for significant others or spouses. For others, it’s a falsified, commercialized excuse for selling flowers, cards, and candy. Regardless of your opinion about the holiday, it provides an excuse to fire up the romance and remind the special ones in your life that you love them.
Six Useless, but Fun Facts for Valentine’s Day:
188 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged annually, making Valentine’s Day the second-most popular greeting-card-giving occasion. (This total excludes packaged kids valentines for classroom exchanges.)
Over 50 percent of all Valentine’s Day cards are purchased in the six days prior to the observance, making Valentine’s Day a procrastinator’s delight.
Research reveals that more than half of the U.S. population celebrates Valentine’s Day by purchasing a greeting card.
There are 119 single men (i.e., never married, widowed or divorced) who are in their 20s for every 100 single women of the same ages.
2.2 million marriages take place in the United States annually. That breaks down to more than 6,000 a day.
Kissing unleashes chemicals that ease stress hormones in both sexes and encourage bonding in men.
Now for something a little more useful. If the news about our struggling economy has you down and you’re looking for a less expensive way to celebrate the day, why not plan a quiet dinner at home and then snuggle up with a good romantic movie?
Here are the Top 10 on my Valentine’s Day list:
The Princess Bride — you can’t go wrong with this movie. It’s a classic and one of the most quoted romantic movies of all time. Besides, it’s got the whole package — humor, action, and romance — and the guys like it too.
Ever After — the classic Cinderella story in a 16th century setting.
Pride and Prejudice (not the zombie version ) — great movie based on the book by Jane Austen.
When Harry Met Sally — Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan set out to see if men and women can ever just be friends.
Sweet Home Alabama — A great song and a great movie with a classic love triangle between Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas and Patrick Dempsey.
French Kiss — Another Meg Ryan film primarily set in France…after all, Paris is the most romantic city in the world.
Pretty Woman — a 90s version of Pygmalion with Richard Gere and Julia Roberts.
Dirty Dancing — an oldie, but goodie.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days — Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson prove that love conquers all, even when trying your best to mess it up.
Australia — an epic romantic adventure starring Nicole Kidman and the “sexiest man alive”, Hugh Jackman.

The Valentine’s Day fun continued tonight with a party for the young married’s group at ALC. This year it was hosted by the Rigdons, which was great because we could relax and have fun. Normally, we’re throwing the parties, and we have to worry about our hosting duties. Tonight was a nice break from that.
Dinner was catered from Posados (Tex Mex restaurant), and the tables were decorated beautifully by our lovely host. Lights were dimmed during dinner to create that special Valentine’s day mood; although, I don’t think we properly appreciated the effect. We were too busy chatting about Derrick’s new live video streaming experiment on MySpace. Maybe one day I’ll actually get to see him instead of the blue offline screen.
After dinner, we moved on to the party games. The Rigdons came up with the first game. It was really cute. The guys had to put their noses through a curtain and the gals had to guess which nose belonged to their husband.
The main event for the night was the “No So Newlywed” game. It was hilarious. We had two groups competing to enter the “finals”. The couples who took first and second place in each round advanced to the next game. Chad and Amy, Nancy and Josh, Chris and Ben, and Darren and Rachel (the real newlyweds) made it to the finals. And, Josh (Nancy’s hulk) swept her off her feet for some mid-game entertainment.
Gary and I decided to forego the rat for dinner idea tonight. Instead, we trekked out to Ricardo’s to celebrate Valentine’s day. Ricardo’s (my new favorite restaurant) is a great little Tex Mex place in Allen. If you haven’t been there, you should check it out. I highly recommend the pollo en crema, grilled chicken breast in an almond cream sauce. It’s fab.
After dinner, we headed to the theater to check out Jumper. It opened today and was a pretty good sci-fi flick. It had an interesting plot, good action, and Rome. Any movie that highlights Rome has my vote. In one scene, the actors were sitting in a cafe at the Pantheon. It was cool because Gary and I had dinner at that exact cafe. It was steps away from our hotel. Ah, what great memories, but I digress.
Back to the movie. It was a cool concept. The “jumpers” can teleport anywhere by simply thinking about the place they want to go. What a great talent. Imagine going to lunch in Rome, visiting the pyramids in Egypt, and being back home in time for dinner. I really wish God had given us that ability. It would be so great to travel the world in an instant, rather than endure a long, arduous plane ride overseas. Oh well, until that time, I guess I’ll suffer through the plane ride…it’s worth it.
Well, that was my V-day celebration. If you are celebrating this weekend, go see Jumper. In my opinion, it’s much better than the click flicks that are playing right now.
