The Write Stuff

We held our second writer’s meeting for Saturday Night Live tonight. The writers came armed with their ideas, outlines, and scripts. Then for the next few hours, we worked together to determine which sketches would actually make it into the show.

At the end of the night, we were left with 13 sketches and 5 videos. We’ll be bringing back favorite characters from past shows, retiring others, and delivering fresh new material. There’s at least one controversial sketch which has me worried. I think the writers delight in creating that one idea that makes me nervous, but it always seems to turn out fine in the end.

With a total of 18 performances plus musical guest spots, we have a full agenda. It will probably clock in around 2 hours with intermission. But, that’s two-hours stocked full of great laughs and fun-filled family entertainment — for free! It doesn’t get any better than that.

Friday and Saturday, October 9-10 at 7:30 pm. Put it on your calendar now. You won’t be disappointed!

Spartan Cheerleaders

With all the seriousness surrounding the election yesterday, I thought I’d try to inject some humor into your day by sharing one of the sketches from our recent Saturday Night Life show.  So, here are the Spartan Cheerleaders doing a little cheering for the ALC Softball team…enjoy!

SNL Cast and Crew Party

We hosted the cast and crew party for SNL at our house tonight. My Monday nights have been empty since we wrapped the show, and it was fun to get together with the SNL gang again to reminisce about the show.

During the party, we hold a special screening of the DVD. It’s the first time for the actors to see the complete show, and it’s a good time to heckle ourselves. So, we packed more than 20 people in our home theater and started the show…good times! I can’t wait to do it all over again next year. :)

I was having too much fun at the party, and I did a poor job of capturing the event in photos. I did manage to snap a few shots before the DVD screening, though. Enjoy!

It’s a Wrap

SNL Logo 2008 - 1

We wrapped Saturday Night Life tonight. It’s strange. The week flew by so quickly that I’m having trouble believing it’s really over. A big part of me is happy (I get my life back), but there’s an equally large part of me that is sad to see it go away. After I finished my last sketch tonight, I snuck onto the balcony to watch the remaining bits of the show. I felt an enormous sense of pride at what we were able to accomplish together. The performances were top notch, but the most fun part was sitting back and watching the audience reaction — the laughter, knee slapping, cheers, and applause were priceless. I love it, makes me wish we could do a few more performances…maybe next year. ;)

We had an amazing cast and crew for this show. It was an honor to work with such a talented group of people. I enjoyed getting to know them better and sharing the experience together. I think each one of us will be taking home some great memories: Miquell breaking up during the sketches, Roxbury guys sneaking into chick chat, Jason wearing his wifebeater, Chris and Jami doing the “Sweet Hulk” sketch, Kaitlyn screaming in Rick’s ear, celebrity Jeopardy, the church lady, Spartans, Creekwood — the list goes on and on.

I’ll be posting pictures as soon as I get them from our photographer. For those who missed the show (you know who you are <wink>), the DVD will be available soon.

We have a few months until we begin work on our next show, so I’m planning to take a nice little break now. Auditions for the 2009 season begin in January. We’ll do SNL again in the Fall. I can’t wait!

Final Dress Rehearsal

I know you are probably tired of hearing about SNL by now, but I’m eating, sleeping, and dreaming SNL until Saturday night when it wraps. The good news is that I’m not working today or tomorrow so I’m much more relaxed now. I even snuck out for a few hours this afternoon to do some shopping. It was so much fun. I love drama, and I love SNL, but it will be nice to have my life back — until the next show anyway. ;)

Saturday Night Life will be a blast. We’ve had lots of fun with the sketches, and I’m sure the audiences will enjoy it too! It premieres tomorrow night. Wish us luck.

I’ve uploaded more “behind the scenes” pictures in the “Photos” section for viewing. Additional pics will be available after the show. There are some surprises I don’t want to give away in advance.
