Walking on the large pebbles...some might say stones...on the beach Another view of the city and the ocean Large pier near our hotel
More from the Promenade de Anglais Palais Messena, a 19th century Italianate villa that belonged to the great grandson of Napoleon's Nice-born Marshal.
Hotel Negresco, a palatial hotel built in 1912 for Henri Negresco, once a gypsy-violin serenader who went bankrupt eight years later. In the hotel hangs a Baccarat chandelier made from 16,000 stones! Will see if I can get a picture later. Promenade de Anglais Dinner at La Pizza, they had GREAT pizza cooked in a brick oven...pasta was good too!
Our pizza chef in front of the brick oven Avenue Jean Medecin near the Nice mall Palais de Justice, inaugurated on 17 October 1892
Cours Saleya, site of the vegetable and flower market during the day and a lively area at night with quaint restaurants -- in the middle of Old Nice More Cours Saleya in Old Nice Place Charles Felix in Old Nice; Castle Hill in the background
Les Ponchettes Old Nice...loved this area...reminds me so much of Italy Woke up to a B-E-A-U-tiful day in Nice!
The first casino built in Nice used to stand on this pier. It was completely destroyed by the Germans during WWII, only the pier remains as a memory. Oh, so Nice! Looking towards the airport
The fresh flower and fruit market in Old Nice...they have everything there -- fresh fish, veggies, spices, breads, fruit, flowers and more. It's great.
One of the vendors at the market Street performer -- a tap dancer and singer -- he was quite good. Streets of Vieux Nice, the old quarter of Nice -- it's Italian heritage is very apparent here
Old Nice St. Jacques Cathedral Entrance to the Lascaris Palace which gives a peek at the 1700s Italian Baroque lifestyle
Upstairs in the Palace Lascaris One of the interior rooms in the palace St. Reparate Cathedral
View of Nice from Castle Hill where the city was first settled. Nice residents lived here until the 12th century -- GORGEOUS!! View of Nice and the mountains, Alpes Maritimes Me and Gary on Castle Hill
The other side of Nice where the port is located The harbor at Nice Enjoying the lovely day
More Nice...can't get enough! From our vantage point, the sailboats looked like toy boats Another view of Nice and the Mediterranean
With my favorite guy The park on top of Castle Hill (Parc du Chateau) -- people were juggling, reading, and playing soccer up here. They also had a playground area for the kids. It had a nice, relaxed vibe and an amazing view of the city. All the yachts in the port
Another view of the lighthouse and port area Remains of an old chapel on Castle Hill. Castle Hill used to be the site of a castle until Louis XVIV destroyed it when he conquered the city.
More remnants on top of Castle Hill, Nice
Nice lighthouse Grand residences on the hill
Looking back at the rock where the people of Nice used to live WWI Memorial
Buying some roasted nuts from a vendor on the promenade de anglais (the English Way) Sitting on the beach as the sun started to go down We sat and watched the sunset -- God painted a fabulous sky for us that night!
