Eating an early lunch before hopping on the train On the train, taking a 90 scenic train ride into the French countryside and the the French Alps View of one of the stops from inside the train
Train stop at Plan Du Var Mountains, river and snow! Old village on the hill
Our stop, Entrevaux. Fortified in 1690, Entrevaux became one of the strongest military sites on the Franco-Savoy border. With the citadel on the top, it's easy to see why. The old medieval town of Entrevaux...it was like stepping back in time Gary in front of the river with a view of the Citadel on the upper right
Easy to see why this is called a "fairy tale" town... The citadel (an old military fort) sits 440 feet above the village. A VERY steep, zig-zag path leads to the top.
Nearing the Ville Forte Port Royale, flanked by twin towers -- one is Port de France and the other, Port d'Italie Entering Port Royale...ah-mazing!
Walking through the medieval streets of the village What's that in the bottom right? Peeking through one of the "windows"
A view of the steep climb...seriously folks, it was a tough walk up to the top! One of the first defensive areas in the lower walls of the citadel View of the valley
Old guard house More climbing Looking down on the village below
Still climbing! Across the river...lots of snow! Commander's quarters
Inside the fort Central area of the fort Prisoner's cells...Gary's giving his sad prisoner face.
Rows of officer's cells are on the left Secret back exit of the fort Back drawbridge entrance to the fort
Looks like a mini "Wall of China" Ah, no more climbing! Going down is much better.
Another defensive guard settlement Tunnel for the train
Our train stop at Entrevaux The cathedral and bell tower at Entrevaux. The bells still ring to announce the time. Our stop
The train arriving for our trip back to Nice
