Good Things

It’s been said that bad things come in threes, but this weekend good things came in threes. On Saturday, I celebrated the first good thing, my 17th wedding anniversary. It’s hard to believe that Gary and I have been married for so many years. I guess it’s really true that time flies when you are having fun. I’m not sure where all the years went, but I’m delighted to be sharing them with the amazing man who is my husband.

For our anniversary dinner, we went to Artin’s Grill in the Shops at Legacy. Artin’s has great service, atmosphere, and food. If you haven’t been there yet, I highly recommend it. After dinner, we went to see the last performance of The Zookeeper’s Journal, a play at the Bath House Cultural Center in Dallas. The writer/director performed with Gary last year in Blast from the Past, and it was fun to see a show put together by his new production company.

The evening was the perfect ending to the last day of our 17th year of marriage. To make things even more exciting, I also received a fantastic surprise gift for our anniversary, a new telescope! It’s a Celestron Nexstar 8″ SE, a huge step up from my small beginner scope that I purchased a few years ago. Unfortunately, we haven’t had the best viewing weather this weekend, but I expect that I’ll be dragging it out a lot in the future. I can’t wait to see more of the planets and deep space objects in the night sky. I’ll be sure to take pictures and share them here as I go.

The second good thing to come this weekend was Gary’s birthday. It was another excuse to open presents and have fun. We celebrated tonight with dinner and front row seats at the Addison Improv Comedy Club in Dallas. Pablo Francisco was the headlining comedian, and he was hilarious. Pablo was a cast member on Fox’s Mad TV, and his impersonations are brilliant. The “warm-up” acts were pretty good also. It was a fun way to celebrate — I laughed ’til I cried, and laughter is good medicine.

Finally, the weekend brought a dusting of snow to North Texas. Well, maybe it was a little more than a dusting. We got about 4-5 inches in our yard, which is somewhat rare in this area of the country. It’s amazing to see how snow transforms everything into a winter wonderland. I love watching the huge white flakes fall to the ground. It makes everything fresh and new.

While I hope the snow and freezing weather doesn’t stick around too long, it was a nice treat and the third good thing to come this weekend.

I just love it when good comes in threes!
